Careers at Transformative Therapy
We are an anti-oppressive practice that centers the needs of LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC clients and communities. We are building a place where therapists and clients alike feel affirmed, seen, and safe. If that is the kind of work you want to do, we would love to hear from you.
Why Therapists Choose Us
Therapists who join us are willing to look deeply at their own identities and privileges. They lean into discomfort, because growth is sometimes uncomfortable. They want to fill the gaps in their training and deepen their understanding of LGBTQIA2S+ communities, different cultures, and what it means to be neurodivergent.
Many of our therapists are BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, neurodivergent, or hold other identities our clients share. They come here because they want to center the people who are too often the last to be considered, and to work somewhere being “different” is part of the norm. A strong percentage of our clients are neurodivergent, and we build our practice around meeting people as they are.
Many therapists come to us because they know what it feels like to not belong, and they want safety for themselves too, not just for their clients. Here, that safety goes both ways.
Therapists often tell us we are different from other practices. We are only five years old, and even in these early stages, we are doing the real work, not the performative kind. We hold deep values around growing as learners, and we mean them.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome therapists of all backgrounds, and we are especially excited to hear from:
- Psychologists
- Therapists with experience in Play Therapy
- Therapists trained to work with couples and families
- Bilingual therapists
While it is never a requirement, we strongly encourage BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ therapists to apply. If any of this sounds like you, we hope you will reach out, even if you are not sure you check every box.
Therapist Positions
We hire therapists as W2 employees, not contractors. That means you are part of our team, with the support and benefits that come with it.
How You Are Paid
We offer two pay structures, and you choose the one that fits you best:
- Flat rate. You earn a set amount for each client appointment you complete.
- Split rate. You earn a percentage of the amount paid for each appointment.
You pick the option that works for your goals, and we are happy to talk through which one might be the better fit for you.
Teach, Train, and Grow With Us
We believe our team is full of knowledge and skill, and that we all have something to offer one another. That is why we offer therapists paid opportunities to facilitate trainings and teach.
It is a chance to share what you know, to deepen your own learning, and to earn a second line of income while doing it. It is also part of something larger we are building, a project we are not quite ready to share yet, but one that will create real opportunities for those who want them, and real change for the people we serve.
Growing Your Skills
We invest in our therapists. Each year, our team attends approximately 12 trainings focused on growing our clinical skills and deepening our anti-oppressive lens. Most come with continuing education credits, since we are an approved CE provider for both the NASW Michigan chapter and the National Board of Certified Counselors.
Supervision
For our limited license clinicians, we cover the full cost of supervision. All of our supervisors work through an anti-oppressive lens, so the support you receive reflects the same values as the work itself.
Benefits
We want our team supported and well. Here is how our benefits work:
Health insurance. Employees who average at least 10 one-hour client appointments per week qualify for health insurance. Premium costs are not covered by the practice, but the plan is available to you once you qualify.
Dental and vision. When you opt into health insurance, we automatically cover 100% of your dental and vision insurance.
Life and disability insurance. Employees who average at least 16 one-hour client appointments per week are automatically enrolled in life insurance and both short-term and long-term disability insurance, and we cover 100% of those costs.
Paid Time Off
You earn 1 hour of PTO for every 15 hours worked, so your time off grows with the work you put in.
